GW Volleyball Renews #RevRivalry at George Mason on Friday

WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team will renew the Revolutionary Rivalry when it visits George Mason on Friday night at the Recreation & Athletic Center. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
GW (11-4, 2-0 A-10) defeated Rhode Island, 3-2, and swept Fordham, 3-0, to open Atlantic 10 Conference play last weekend for its first 2-0 league start since the 2003 season.
Sophomore Chidima Osuchukwu became the third player in program history to win consecutive outright A-10 Player of the Week awards after hitting .359 with 29 kills and 14 blocks (two solo, 12 assists) in the two matches.
The Virginia Beach, Virginia, native currently leads the Colonials with 182 kills, ranks 14th in the nation with 75 total blocks and is 17th in the nation with 1.47 blocks per set. She also ranks third in the A-10 in hitting percentage (.354) and fifth in kills per set (3.57).
As a team, GW enters the weekend leading the A-10 in kills (14.33/set), blocks (2.82/set) and assists (13.35/set) while ranking second in hitting percentage (.244), opponent hitting percentage (.168) and digs (16.20/set).
Senior Kelsey Newman has totaled 177 kills and ranks third in the conference with 3.85 kills per set while sophomore Loren Williams has also surpassed 100 kills on the season with 110 winners.
Junior Maggie Skjlebred is fourth in the A-10 with 1.18 blocks per set and has totaled 60 rejections on the season (6 solo, 54 assists) while junior Maddy Doyle paces the backline with a team best 231 digs. Doyle ranks second in the A-10 with 4.53 digs per set.
Junior Jordan Timmer is currently ranked 30th in Division I and second in the Atlantic 10 with 10.96 assists per set. The Lowell, Michigan, native has totaled 504 helpers through 46 sets this season.
GW defeated George Mason in both meetings last season and has won the last six matches to run its all-time record against the Patriots to 32-8.
Friday's match marks the first of two meetings between the Colonials and the Patriots this season as the two schools compete in the second season of the Revolutionary Rivalry. The teams will play again on October 31 at the Charles E. Smith Center.
The #RevRivalry pits GW and George Mason against one another in each of the 16 Atlantic 10 sports in which they compete. The series began one year ago and awards points to the victor in each round of competition. GW won the inaugural title last season, 11-8, and currently leads the 2014 installment 1-0 following women's soccer's victory over George Mason last weekend.
