WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team opens its 38th season of competition by hosting the 27th George Washington Invitational at the Charles E. Smith Center this weekend.
The Colonials will open the tournament against Maryland on Friday evening at 7 p.m., before hosting UMBC and Ole Miss on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., respectively.
Live video streaming of GW Athletics events is transitioning to the new Atlantic 10 Conference Digital Network as part of a league-wide multimedia rights partnership with NeuLion for 2013-14.

The Colonials hold a combined all-time record of 46-27 against the field, including a 26-25 record against Maryland and a 20-1 all-time mark against UMBC. The Colonials lost to Ole Miss in straight sets in their only meeting during the 1979 season.
Friday's match marks the first official competition on the newly-designed Larry "Tex" Silverman Court at Smith Center. In two seasons under head coach Amanda Ault, the Colonials have amassed a 19-5 record in home matches and boast a 33-13 overall home record across the past four seasons.
The GW Department of Athletics & Recreation and Hallmark Programs are teaming up this year to connect GW Women's Volleyball and GW's annual Colonial Quest Adventure Race on August 30th. Colonials fans are invited to make a team, check in at the Champions Club in the Smith Center between 7-8 p.m. then sit back, relax and watch the game.
A special clue will be announced between the second and third sets of the game. To register for the Colonial Quest, please visit the Welcome Week website. Make sure to follow @GW_Sports and @GWHallmark for updates on these great events and more during GW's 2013 Welcome Week.
Friday is also College Colors Day. Fans can swap out a non-GW shirt for a GW shirt presented by the GW Licensing and Trademarks Program and the GW Bookstore.
