GW Volleyball Opens Atlantic 10 Schedule With Weekend Road Trip

WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team will open its Atlantic 10 Conference schedule this weekend with a visit to VCU on Friday night at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Sunday afternoon meeting at Rhode Island at 1:00 p.m.
Junior Kelsey Newman leads GW's offense with 125 kills while freshman Chidima Osuchukwu ranks second on the team with 103 winners.
Osuchukwu also ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 with a .317 attack percentage and eighth with an average of 1.10 blocks per set. She leads the Colonials with 57 total rejections on the season.
Sophomores Maddy Doyle and Jordan Timmer also hold statistical rankings in the A-10. Doyle enters the weekend ranked second overall in the conference, and 60th overall in Division I, with an average of 4.65 digs per set while Timmer is eighth with an average of 8.11 assists per set.
GW owns a 16-5 all-time record against VCU and is 22-33 all-time against Rhode Island.
VCU (13-4, 2-0 A-10) opened conference play last weekend with road wins over Dayton and Saint Louis and picked up a midweek win over Hampton on Wednesday night.
The Rams are one of the top defensive teams in the Atlantic 10, ranking first in opponent hitting percentage (.164) and third in blocks (2.79/set). Offensively, Romana Kriskova leads the conference with 318 kills, averaging 4.82 per set.
Rhode Island (9-7, 2-0) also swept its way through the opening weekend of A-10 matches, earning road wins over La Salle and Fordham, and will host Duquesne on Friday night prior to Sunday's match. Rhode Island ranks first in the conference in kills (13.62/set) and digs (16.60/set) and second in opponent hitting percentage (.166) and assists (12.29/set).
