GW Volleyball Hosts La Salle and VCU This Weekend

GW (6-10, 1-1 A-10) opened its conference schedule last weekend, falling at VCU on Friday before outlasting Rhode Island in five sets on Sunday.
Sophomore Chidima Osuchukwu hit a blistering .395 with 19 kills and just four attack errors last weekend to bring her season hitting percentage to .328, which currently ranks fifth overall in the Atlantic 10. She also leads the conference with 19 solo blocks and ranks seventh overall with an average of 1.10 blocks per set. Her 122 kills also rank second on the team.
Also garnering ranks within the Atlantic 10 are sophomores Jordan Timmer (8th, 8.11 assists/set), Maggie Skjelbred (T-8th, 0.26 aces/set), Maddy Doyle (2nd, 4.48 digs/set) and senior Jamie Armstrong (T-8th, 0.26 aces/set).
Junior Kelsey Newman paces GW's attack with a team-high 138 kills while senior Rachael Goss also has eclipsed the 100-kill mark with 112 winners this season.
La Salle (1-21, 0-4 A-10) has lost 21 straight matches following a season-opening win over Fairleigh Dickinson. The Colonials lead the all-time series over the Explorers by a 32-2 margin following last season's 3-0 victory.
VCU (16-4, 4-0 A-10) carries a six-match win streak into the weekend and will visit George Mason on Friday evening before Saturday's match. The Rams are one of the top defensive units in the Atlantic 10, ranking first in opponent hitting percentage (.165) and third in blocks (2.57/set). Offensively, Romana Kriskova leads the team and the Atlantic 10 with 374 kills.
GW leads the all-time series against VCU, 16-6.
