GW Volleyball Falls to No. 16 Tennessee, 3-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The George Washington volleyball team opened play in the Spring Hill Suites at Arundel Mills Invitational on Friday against their third ranked opponent of the season, but fell, 3-0, to No. 16 Tennessee. Set scores were 20-25, 22-25, 16-25.
GW (1-7) hit .127 (35k-22e-102a) for the match but had trouble offsetting
The Colonials battled in the first set and trailed by just one point at 12-13 before a 9-1 Volunteer run opened up a 21-14 lead, forcing a GW timeout. Out of the break the Colonials were able to establish momentum but the Volunteers were able to hold off the rally and clinch the opening set, 20-25.
GW's best effort came during the second set, in which they hit a match-high .256 (15k-5e-39a). The Colonials held a slim 6-5 advantage early in the frame before
The Volunteers totaled 12 team blocks in the match and forced a total of 22 errors.
The Colonials were led by senior Lauren Whyte who finished with 14 kills and nine digs. Sophomore Kelsey Newman added nine kills and seven digs while redshirt junior Jessica Lubic dished out 29 assists to go with four digs and three kills.
Senior Candace Silva-Martin totaled 10 digs to pace the defense.
The Colonials continue play in theSpring Hill Suites at Arundel Mills Invitational on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader against the host Terrapins (1:30 p.m.) and Boston College (5:00 p.m.).
