Sarah Jackson Joins GW Softball Coaching Staff

WASHINGTON - George Washington head softball coach Stacey Schramm today announced that two-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year Sarah Jackson will join the Colonials' staff as pitching coach.
"Sarah is a great addition to the coaching staff," Schramm said. "With the graduation of veteran pitchers Kara Clauss and Heidi Penna, Sarah will be instrumental in developing a young pitching staff. Her knowledge and experience on the mound will undoubtedly fill a void. Bringing Sarah on staff is just another huge step that the GW softball program is taking in an effort to reach the top."
Jackson was a four-year standout at Iona College, where she posted a 62-42 career record with a 1.77 ERA and 802 strikeouts from 2009-12. She is the program's all-time leader in nearly every pitching category, including wins, strikeouts, complete games (81) and shutouts (26). In addition, she set school records with 241 strikeouts and eight shutouts as a senior.
A four-time All-MAAC selection, including First Team in her final three seasons, Jackson was named the league's Co-Rookie of the Year in 2009 and Pitcher of the Year in 2010 and 2012. She was also twice selected to the NFCA All-Region Second Team.
Jackson led the Gaels to three straight MAAC championships and three consecutive NCAA Regional appearances, earning conference tournament MVP honors in 2010 and 2011 and All-Tournament Team recognition in 2012.
"I'm very excited for the opportunity to be a part of the GW community," Jackson said. "I'm looking forward to working alongside Stacey and Dan (Sperl, assistant coach) and to help build upon last season's success. This is a great group of ladies that I know I will enjoy coaching."
Jackson spent the summer of 2012 pitching for Italian softball powerhouse Des Casterta.
A native of Citrus Heights, Calif., Jackson graduated from Iona in May 2012 with a degree in mass communications with a concentration in public relations.
