GW Volleyball Recruit Maddy Doyle Wins USAV Junior National Title

WASHINGTON - George Washington volleyball incoming freshman Maddy Doyle's club team, Michigan Elite Volleyball Academy, won the 2012 USAV Girls' Junior National Championship on Monday in Columbus, Ohio.

Doyle's team, consisting of some of the top volleyball players in the state of Michigan, rattled off 11 consecutive victories in the Gold Division over the course of four days to clinch the championship. The Farmington Hills, Mich., native was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

"Maddy is a great player," said GW Head Coach Amanda Ault. "Her most recent national championship and her MVP award in Columbus is icing on an outstanding high school career. We are excited about what she brings to the program both on and off the court and feel that Maddy will be an integral piece of this team for the next four years as we vie for an Atlantic 10 championship."

Earlier this year, Doyle was named the recipient of Michigan's Miss Volleyball award, given annually to the top player in the state by the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association. She helped her team at Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, Mich., to the Class A District Championship for three consecutive years while leading the Marlins to the Class A Final Four in her sophomore and junior seasons.

"Maddy's size is deceiving but she is a lefty who has the ability to score points and she possesses great court vision," said Coach Ault. "We are looking forward to deciding what role she will fill for us since she is such a versatile and energetic player."

Doyle totaled 717 kills and 501 digs to go with 121 assists, 107 blocks and 55 service aces as a senior while posting an attack percentage of .387. She is a two-time First Team All-State selection.
