SKILLMAN, N.J. - The George Washington women's tennis team has been recognized as a 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team, the governing body of collegiate tennis announced on Thursday. Recent graduates Jacqueline Corba and Meg Tyner, in addition to rising senior Mimi Hamling, were also honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is presented to teams that have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher. To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, the student-athlete must be a varsity letterwinner, possess a GPA of 3.50 or higher and be enrolled at their present institution for at least two semesters.
This past year, Corba, Tyner and Hamling were among 10 women's tennis student-athletes on the GW Athletics Department Dean's List, while Tyner and Hamling were named to the 2012 Spring Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Additionally, the Colonials received the NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition Award for an APR score in the top 10 percent in the nation in their sport.
GW is joined by fellow conference members Charlotte, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's and Saint Louis as recipients of the annual award, while the trio of Corba, Tyner and Hamling join 37 other A-10 student-athletes recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
