WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team returns home to host Hampton on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at Mount Vernon Field. Game 1 is set for 2 p.m.

The Colonials (7-16) welcome the Lady Pirates (11-15) to Mount Vernon for the first time in what will be just the second-ever meeting between the two programs. In 2011, GW and Hampton split action in a series in Hampton, Va.

GW is coming off a 3-4 week after hosting Mount St. Mary's in a doubleheader last Tuesday and participating in the James Madison Days Inn Invitational this past weekend. In the Colonials' sweep of the Mount, senior pitcher Kara Clauss threw just the second no-hitter in GW softball history to lift her squad to a Game 1 victory. In 22 batters faced, Clauss struck out four and walked none as she registered her third shutout of the season.

At the JMU Invitational, the Colonials split action with the host Dukes, dropping the first game, 5-4, and winning the second, 4-2. The Buff and Blue also fell to Pittsburgh twice (8-5, 9-7) and to Atlantic 10 foe Fordham (4-0).

Sophomore Chelsea Lenhart and junior Autumn Taylor paced the Colonials, as the two combined for 10 hits, eight runs, five RBIs and three home runs over the five contests. Taylor has slammed a team-high seven homers this season, in addition to her team-leading 25 hits and 17 RBIs in 77 at-bats.

Hampton won three of its four games in the annual Lady Pirates Classic this past weekend. The squad defeated UMES twice (9-1, 9-0), and split with Central Connecticut State, dropping the first game, 3-2, and winning the tournament finale, 3-1.

Junior Nina Ferguson leads the Lady Pirates in several categories, including hits (22), RBIs (14), doubles (5) and total bases (27). Ferguson also ranks second in runs scored (10) and on-base percentage (.409) in 72 at-bats.
