GW Gymnastics Takes Third Place at Sweetheart Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. - The George Washington gymnastics team finished in third place against nationally ranked competition at the annual Sweetheart Invitational at Reynolds Coliseum on Saturday night.
No. 23 North Carolina (196.775) upset No. 10 Penn State (196.650) to win the event. The Colonials followed in third with 191.750 and William & Mary took fourth, scoring 191.375.
GW's best event of the evening was the uneven bars as the Colonials scored a season-high 48.425. Sophomore Kiera Kenney led the effort with a season-high 9.800 to finish in a tie for fifth. The Warrington, Pa., native also tallied a 9.725 on the balance beam.
On a very competitive vault, freshman Courtney Willoughby finished tied for 10th place with a career-high 9.800.
On the balance beam, redshirt junior Monique Blount and senior Amanda Murphy finished in a tie for ninth place, each scoring 9.775. The score marks a career-high for Murphy.
The Colonials will travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich., to compete in the fifth out of six straight road meets on Sunday at 1 p.m.
