GW Gymnastics Places Second at West Virginia Tri-Meet

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The George Washington gymnastics team participated in its second of six straight road contests with a second-place finish in a tri-meet at West Virginia on Sunday afternoon at the WVU Coliseum.
The Colonials totaled a season-high 193.125 as a team, just 2.65 points behind the first place Mountaineers (195.775). Towson finished in third with 190.875.
For the third week in a row to start the season, junior Stephanie Stoicovy earned a spot on the podium for the all-around. She followed first- and second-place finishes in the season's first two meets with a third place finish on Sunday. The Erie, Pa., native scored 38.550 on the afternoon including a 9.750 on the floor exercise, 9.700 on vault, 9.600 on balance beam and 9.500 on the uneven bars.
A number of Colonial gymnasts had memorable performances on various events. Redshirt junior Monique Blount delivered the best routine of her career on balance beam with a 9.800 routine, placing her in a tie for third place.
Freshman Elena Corcoran landed a season-high 9.800 on the vault to take fourth place overall on the event and sophomore Kiera Kenney continued to be a consistent threat on uneven bars. A 2011 All-EAGL performer, Kenney delivered a season-high 9.725 to secure fourth place.
Statistically it was GW's best team performance of the young season. The Colonials recorded season-high team scores in all events with 48.600 on vault, 47.875 on bars, 48.450 on balance beam and 48.200 on the floor exercise for a season high 193.125.
GW will continue its six meet, 4,000+ mile road swing with a quad meet featuring EAGL rivals Rutgers and Pittsburgh in addition to William & Mary on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Pitt's Fitzgerald Field House.
