Armstrong Named A-10 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington sophomore middle blocker Jamie Armstrong has been named the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week the league office announced Tuesday. It marks the first A-10 weekly honor of her career.
Armstrong helped the Colonials to a trio of straight-set victories over UNC Wilmington, North Carolina Central and Central Connecticut State at the GW Invitational over weekend as well as a sweep of cross-town rival Howard last Tuesday.
The Monroe, Wisc., native finished the week with 13 blocks, 12 digs and five service aces along with 20 kills (.300) and 32.5 points. Six of her blocks came against UNC Wilmington on Friday evening.
Armstrong's best performance of the weekend came against Central Connecticut State on Saturday night when she slammed seven kills against just one error (.500) with three block assists, one block solo, two digs and two service aces for 11.5 points.
The GW volleyball team has opened the season with six consecutive victories, it's best start to a season since 2003 when it opened 10-0.
The Colonials return to action this weekend at the VCU/Third Degree Sportswear Invitational in Richmond, Va. GW will face North Carolina A&T on Friday at 5:00 pm followed by Saturday matches against Cornell (12:00pm) and host VCU (5:00 pm)
