WASHINGTON - Baltimore native Isaiah Armwood is the newest member of the George Washington University men's basketball team. The 6-foot-9 forward has transferred to GW after playing two seasons at Villanova from 2009-11. Armwood will have two years of eligibility remaining with GW after fulfilling NCAA transfer requirements during the 2011-12 season.
"Isaiah will be a great addition to our program. He played for nearby Montrose Christian School and a premier college program at Villanova under Jay Wright. Although he won't be able to play for us this season, his experience, leadership and work ethic in practice will be very beneficial to our team," said Coach Lonergan.
Armwood averaged 2.4 points on 48.1 percent shooting, 2.9 rebounds, 0.6 blocks, and 14.2 minutes over 61 games during two seasons with the Wildcats, who posted a 46-20 record over that span. As a sophomore in 2010-11, Armwood started eight of 32 games played and averaged 2.5 points and 3.6 rebounds.
"It's a brand new start," said Armwood. "It was a hard decision (to transfer), but it was the best decision for me. I look forward to working with my teammates and coaches and helping the team as much as possible."
