Volleyball's Silva-Martin Headlines DC Challenge All-Tournament Team

WASHINGTON - George Washington volleyball junior libero Candace Silva-Martin was selected the Most Valuable Player of the DC Challenge for guiding the Colonials to a sweep against area competition in the event. Senior MacKenzie Knox and sophomore Jamie Armstrong joined Silva-Martin on the All-Tournament team.
Silva-Martin paced the Colonials' defense in three victories over American (3-1, Aug. 26), George Mason (3-1, Aug. 28) and Georgetown (3-2, Sept. 13) with a total of 53 digs (4.08/set). The Fremont, Calif., native also contributed 12 assists, five service aces and two kills as GW clinched its third DC Challenge championship since the event's inception in 2006.
Knox totaled 27 kills against seven errors for a .323 attack percentage throughout the tournament, along with a team-high 11 blocks (two solo, nine assisted).
Armstrong hit a team-high .375 for the tournament with 29 kills, nine digs, three aces and eight block assists. Her best match of the tournament came against American on Aug. 26, when she slammed a career-high 14 kills against just four errors for a .417 attack percentage. The Monroe, Wis., native also added five digs and two block assists in the Colonials' season-opening victory over the Eagles.
