Volleyball Hosts Howard Tuesday Night at Smith Center

WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team returns to action tonight hosting District rival Howard at the Charles E. Smith Center. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
GW (2-0) is coming off consecutive victories in the DC Challenge to open the 2011 season. On Friday night the Colonials snapped American University's 19-match home winning streak in front of 2,122 spectators, the largest crowd to ever watch a collegiate volleyball match in the District, with a 3-1 victory over the Eagles at AU's Bender Arena.
The momentum carried over to Saturday as the Colonials knocked off George Mason, 3-1 at Smith Center.
Junior Lauren Whyte totaled 41 kills over the weekend while registering consecutive double-doubles and sophomores Jamie Armstrong and Taylor Knox each set career highs in kills.
Howard (0-4) opened the 2011 season last weekend at the Pitt Invitational where it fell in matches against Eastern Kentucky, Saint Francis (Pa.), Duquesne and the host Panthers.
