Volleyball Picked Sixth in Preseason A-10 Coaches Poll

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Seeking its first A-10 Championship since 2000, George Washington is picked sixth in voting conducted by the league's head coaches, the league office announced Wednesday.
Leading the Colonials in 2011 are 2009 A-10 All-Rookie Team members Lauren Whyte and Candace Silva-Martin. Whyte was an A-10 All-Conference Second Team selection last year. First-year head coach Amanda Ault welcomes back five starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's 17-15 team that placed seventh in the A-10.
Two-time defending champion Dayton was tabbed to win its third-straight Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball title. Xavier was picked second in the A-10 Coaches' Poll followed by Duquesne, 2008 A-10 Champion Saint Louis, Charlotte, and GW, while Fordham, Rhode Island, Temple and La Salle round out the 10.
The six-team A-10 Volleyball Championship will be held Nov. 18-20 at the Frericks Center on the campus of the University of Dayton.

Preseason practices begin Aug. 11 and the 2011 Volleyball season gets underway Aug. 26 when the Colonials face American in the DC Challenge at AU's Bender Arena.
