GW Names Ryan Freeburg as Assistant Coach for Volleyball

WASHINGTON, DC - Ryan Freeburg has been named as an assistant coach for the George Washington University volleyball program, GW head coach Amanda Ault has announced. Freeburg replaces former Assistant Coach, Doug English, who resigned in March to accept a coaching position at the University of Delaware.
A 2010 graduate of Purdue with a bachelor's degree in management, Freeburg comes to GW after spending the past year as an volunteer assistant coach for the Purdue University volleyball program. The Boilermakers fell to Texas in the NCAA Elite 8 last November. Prior to that, Freeburg was a team manager for three seasons.
"We are happy to welcome Ryan to the George Washington University," Ault said. "He has grown up around the game and comes from a program that has had a lot of success in the last few years. His knowledge of the sport and his ability to train in the gym will be an asset to the program. He brings an enormous passion for the game and is a very good fit for our program. I look forward to the opportunity to work with him."
His duties included the coordination of video operations for the program using DataVolley and DataVideo. He also assisted in multiple aspects of the team's practices including tabulating stats and recording video. He was responsible for training the outside attackers and also worked with the setters and defensive specialists. He assisted in the scouting of opponents' offensive schemes and provided defensive game plans.
Since 2009, Freeburg also has been the club director for the Lafayette (IN) Volleyball Academy, running all day to day operations for the club since its founding. In that position, he has created practice and tournament schedules, overseen the hiring of more than 20 coaches and the selection and team placement of more than 120 players. He also directed several camps and clinics for local volleyball players as well as his coaching staff. Freeburg also coached the club's 16-1 Griffins which competed in the Open Division at the AAU National Championship.
On the court, Freeburg was the starting outside attacker on the Purdue men's club team that finished 11th in the Division II segment of the 2009 NCCS Collegiate Club Volleyball Championships in Kansas City, MO.
GW concluded the 2010 season with a 17-15 overall record, 6-9 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
