PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Junior Phillip Graeter and sophomore Spencer Neff each posted two first-place finishes for the George Washington men's swimming team, but it was not enough as the Colonials fell to Drexel, 170-110, at Drexel Pool Saturday afternoon.
Greater swam a time of 1:55.05 in the 200-yard backstroke to earn first place. Sophomore Jake Mortensen followed in a close third with a time of 1:55.22. Graeter also won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:56.57, followed by freshman Joe Lipworth in second with a time of 1:59.54.
Neff won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:55.16, 1.5 seconds ahead of junior Stephen Nelson, who clocked in at 9:56.42 for second place.
The Colonials swept the top-three spots in the 500-yard freestyle, led by Neff in 4:48.50. Junior Niklas Glenesk finished in second with a time of 4:49.99, and Nelson came in third in 4:50.64.
Graeter finished second in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.63, just over one second behind Drexel's first-place finisher. Glenesk touched the wall in 1:43.61 to earn second place in the 200-yard freestyle. In the 100-yard backstroke, Mortensen and junior Alex Etz finished second and third, respectively, in 53.20 and 54.11 seconds.
GW hosts its first home dual meet of the 2011-12 season on Saturday, Nov. 12 with a 1 p.m. meet with Towson in Smith Center Pool.
