Colonials Swimmers Fall to Hoyas

WASHINGTON, DC - GW swimmers earned 11 wins over Georgetown Saturday when the two squads faced off at GU's McCarthy Pool. The Hoyas men's squad won 161-110 over the Colonials, while the GU's women's squad won 168-104.
Freshman swimmer Caroline Myers won three individual races to lead the Colonials. Myers won the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.07), 500-yard freestyle (5:04.21), and the 400-yard individual medley (4:38.55).
Sydney Saunders earned points for the Colonials with second-place finishes in the 50-yard free (25.37), 100-yard freestyle (53.77), and swam the anchor legs of the 400-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays.
Freshman Rachael Johnston also took second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.77), 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.43).
The men's squad spread out the first-place victories against the Hoyas. Sophomore Niklas Glenesk won the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.09), while freshman Jake Mortensen and sophomore Phillip Graeter finished the 200-yard backstroke one-two respectively.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Alex Etz (54.00) took first-place with Mortensen following in second (54.78). Greater also went on to win the 400-yard individual medley (4.11.69).
Junior Marshall Seedorff won the 100-yard freestyle sprint (48.41) for the Colonials. Etz, Seedorff and Glenesk teamed up with Niccolo Wilson to win the men's 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:13. 47.
The Colonials gear up for two dual meets in two days next weekend. GW first travels to take on Towson on Saturday, Jan 29 at 1:00 pm at Burdick Pool. On Sunday, Jan. 30, the Colonials host George Mason beginning at 12:00 pm at Charles E. Smith Center Pool in the last meet of the 2010-11 season for five seniors. Sarah Beggs, Noelle Miesfeld, Paola Leor, Konrad Kopczynski and Andrew Maguire will be honored prior to the Sunday meet.
