WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington women's basketball will host six games at Charles E. Smith Center as part of its 2010-11 non-conference schedule, highlighted by a Dec. 5 meeting with George Mason in the Battle of the Orange Line and Dec. 15 showdown against Auburn.
GW's full schedule with Atlantic 10 opponents will be announced in September, but is slated to feature 13 teams which reached postseason play in 2010, including NCAA Tournament participant Green Bay in the season opening Best Buy Classic hosted by Minnesota Nov. 13-14.
Season tickets for the 13 home games are on sale now and continue until late October. Season ticket packages begin at $75, with special discounts for alumni, faculty/staff, senior citizens (60 or older), and men's basketball season-ticket holders. To purchase season tickets, visit www.GWsports.com and click on the Tickets link or call the Smith Center box office at (202) 994-6050.
After opening with games against Green Bay and either Minnesota or Northern Illinois in Minneapolis, MN, the Colonials return to campus to play their next three games at fully renovated Charles E. Smith Center. GW hosts Coppin State in its home opener Nov. 18, followed by North Texas Nov. 21 and Ohio Nov. 30.
The Colonials begin December with a visit to Marshall Dec. 2, followed by the Battle of the Orange Line with George Mason at Smith Center Dec. 5. GW then travels to Norfolk, VA, on Dec. 8 to face 2010 Postseason WNIT participant Old Dominion for the first time since 1996.
The non-conference home schedule concludes with back-to-back home games against Stony Brook on Dec. 11 and Auburn on Dec. 15. The Colonials then visit Postseason WNIT participant and district rival American on Dec. 18 before heading into winter break.
GW will travel to Miami, FL, between Christmas and New Years for the Miami Holiday Tournament at BankUnited Center. The Colonials play the hosts and 2010 Postseason WNIT finalists, Miami Hurricanes, Dec. 28 and Morgan State Dec. 29.
GW completes non-conference play with a rivalry game at Rutgers on Jan. 3. The Colonials upset the NCAA-bound Scarlet Knights, 45-43, at Smith Center last December.
For the second time in the 29-year history of Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Basketball, the league will host its 2011 A-10 Women's Basketball Championship at a neutral site - the Tsongas Center in Lowell, MA, March 4-7.
Third-year head coach Mike Bozeman returns every starter from a 2009-10 season in which the Colonials posted a 6-22 overall record and qualified for their 28th consecutive A-10 Championship. GW also will welcome back a trio of key returnees - Ivy Abiona, Tara Booker and Danni Jackson - and introduce a three-player recruiting class rated in the Top 50 nationally by ESPN HoopGurlz - Kristin Aldridge, Erica Chandler and Chelisa Painter.
Fans this season will be greeted by a new-look Smith Center with an all-new exterior, updated concessions concourses and a refurbished box office. In the arena, a larger new state-of-the-art Daktronics scoreboard display will enhance the spectator experience with high-resolution replays and live game stats.
