WASHINGTON, DC - Former George Washington women's basketball standout Jessica Adair ('09) signed with the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx Thursday, aiming to help the professional franchise move into the league's playoffs with two regular-season games remaining.
Adair, who spent a majority of 2010 training camp with the Lynx after being drafted 34th overall by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2009 WNBA Draft, will suit up for Minnesota for the first time Friday at Los Angeles. The 6-foot-4 center, who starred at GW from 2005-09, totaled 14 points, six rebounds, three steals and three blocks in 26 minutes for the Lynx in a preseason exhibition against the Chicago Sky in April.
The Lynx are in a three-way battle for the final two Western Conference playoff spots with the Sparks and San Antonio Silver Stars. Minnesota wraps the regular season Sunday at Indiana, a game that will air on NBA TV.
Adair earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in each of her final three seasons at GW, becoming the 10th player in league history to earn the award at least three times. She ranks 11th on GW's career scoring list with 1,475 points, seventh in career rebounds (770) and fifth in career blocks (161), joining other standouts Tajama (Abraham) Ngongba, Ugo Oha and Kas Allen as the only Colonials to have at least 1,400 points, 700 rebounds and 100 blocks in their careers.
Adair is the second former GW player to sign with the Lynx the past two seasons after Anna Montañana averaged 2.2 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 16 games for the franchise in 2009.
