WASHINGTON, DC -- Seeking its first A-10 Championship since 2000, George Washington is picked to finish third in a preseason poll conducted by the league's head coaches.
Leading the Colonials in 2010 are senior co-captains Leah Hill and Katie Zulandt along with 2009 A-10 All-Rookie Team members Lauren Whyte and Candace Silva-Martin. Head Coach Jojit Coronel welcomes back five starters and nine letterwinners from last year's 21-12 team that placed fifth in the A-10.
Dayton was tabbed to defend its Atlantic 10 volleyball title. The Flyers claimed a share of the league's regular-season crown before edging Saint Louis in the finals of the 2009 A-10 Championship, 3-2, for their fifth title in the past seven years.
Saint Louis is picked second after earning a share of the A-10 regular-season title for the second consecutive year and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons. GW is followed by Xavier, Temple, Charlotte, Duquesne, Rhode Island, Fordham and La Salle.
The 2010 Volleyball season gets underway Aug. 27 when the Colonials face Georgetown in the DC Challenge at American University's Bender Arena.
The six-team A-10 Volleyball Championship will be held Nov. 19-21 at the Cintas Center on the campus of Xavier University.
