WASHINGTON, DC - Teammates at GW and now teammates in the pros...in their own private Idaho.
Shortstop Tom Zebroski and pitcher Eric Cantrell signed contracts with the Kansas City Royals and have been assigned to the roster of the Idaho Falls Chukars in the Pioneer League for rookies.
By signing a professional contract, Cantrell forfeits his final year of eligibility at the college level. The righthander was a seventh round pick of the Royals (209th pick overall) after being named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team.
The Oakton, VA, native broke the Colonials single-season strikeout record with 114. It was also tops on the A-10.
In his final appearance for the Colonials, Cantrell struck out eight against Rhode Island.
Zebroski was highly decorated with postseason honors. He was the Atlantic 10 Player and Student-Athlete of the Year. He was a Louisville Slugger All-America third-team selection and was named to the 2010 ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region Second Team and the All-ECAC second team.
