Women's Lacrosse Falls at Richmond, 17-6

RICHMOND, VA - Sophomore Hilary Quinn matched a season- and career-high three goals, but the George Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-6 decision to Richmond in Atlantic 10 action at UR Stadium Friday afternoon.
GW surrendered the first six goals and couldn't get any closer than three the rest of the way in losing its seventh straight game, the longest skid in the program's nine-year history.
After giving up six goals in the opening 13:02, Quinn got the Colonials on the scoreboard at the 16:33 mark. Senior Taylor Donohue took an assist from classmate Katelyn Langs and rookie Nicole Lacey scored on a dish from sophomore Sarah Phillips to narrow the margin to 6-3 with 6:15 left in the half. UR responded with three goals in the final 4:25 of the period, including a tally with 27 seconds left and another at the halftime horn, to hold a 9-3 advantage at intermission.
The Spiders completed a 4-0 run with the first goal of the second half 4:15 in for a 10-3 cushion. Phillips scored 1:18 later to make it 10-4, then Quinn took the ensuing draw straight to cage and netted her second goal 13 seconds later to close to 10-5.
Richmond (5-7, 2-1 A-10) closed the final 22:40 with a 7-1 run, with Quinn completing her hat trick at the 8:33 mark, to produce the 17-6 final.
Gabi Wiegand totaled eight points on six goals and two assists to pace the Spiders. Danielle Schaevitz and Kara Moschetti finished with hat tricks. Goalkeeper Erica Marrocco made five saves on 14 shots faced.
Phillips finished with two points on a goal and an assist. Lacey added a goal and career-best eight draw controls, one shy of the school single-game mark. Sophomore Casey Disharoon had three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Donohue's goal gave her 90 for her career and moved her into solo third on GW's all-time goals scored list.
Junior goalkeeper Liz Hoffman made 10 saves in 53 minutes of action, while freshman Jess Hicks stopped two shots in seven minutes in goal.
GW (2-10, 0-3 A-10) will celebrate Senior Day in its final home game next Friday, April 9, against Saint Joseph's at 4:00 pm. The Colonials will honor seniors Kelsey Honeyford, Meghan Ottolini, Katelyn Langs and Taylor Donohue prior to their final home game.
