Colonials Drop Two at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, VA-- GW softball dropped two non-conference games against Liberty on Sunday afternoon. The Colonials (5-30) fell in game one 11-1 in five innings and game two 10-0 in six to Liberty (28-11).
In the first game, the Colonials took a quick lead on the Flames in the first inning when Lauren Wilson led off with a base hit past second base. Wilson scored from second on Jordyn O'Donnell's single to right field.
Freshman Elaine Nescio threw three and one third innings, giving up four runs on five hits and one Colonial defensive error. Nescio walked one and struck out five.
Heidi Penna and Ali Pardo retired one batter each in the fourth inning in relief. Penna gave up four runs on four hits, walking one batter. Pardo allowed three runs on one hit, walking two batters.
Kara Clauss took the rubber for the Colonials in the second game, holding the Flames hitless until the third inning and got out of the inning without allowing a run.
The Colonials put runners on in the top of the fourth when Amanda Holst was hit by a pitch and Katie Terrazas drew a walk but both runners were left stranded.
The Flames put together three runs on two hits and three defensive errors in the bottom of the inning to go up 3-0 on the Colonials.
GW got base hits in the fifth and sixth innings but Liberty answered with two runs up in the fifth on two hits and one error and capped the game with a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth.
The Colonials are set to take on Georgetown on Tuesday, April 20 at 4:00 p.m. at Mount Vernon Field for one game. GW will host Howard for a double header on Wednesday, with first pitch at 3:00 p.m.
