WASHINGTON - George Washington women's lacrosse sophomore midfielder Sarah Phillips was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, while junior goalkeeper Liz Hoffman was tabbed A-10 Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Phillips, last year's A-10 Rookie of the Year, led GW with five goals and six points in a 1-1 week. She converted 5-of-7 shot attempts in two games, including 3-of-4 in a 12-11 overtime victory over American Wednesday. Her lone assist came on the game-winner with 5.2 seconds left in overtime against the Eagles. Phillips leads the Colonials with seven goals and eight points so far this season.
Hoffman matched a career-high with 17 saves in the victory over American and averaged 15 saves and four ground balls in two games on the week. The 17 stops also equaled the third-highest single-game total in program history. Hoffman now has 182 career saves, which ranks third all-time at GW and is just 51 shy of second place. Caitlin Garman ('08) owns the career mark with 493 stops.
The respective awards are the first for Phillips and Hoffman in their careers.
GW (1-2) returns to action Wednesday when it travels to local rival George Mason for a 7:00 pm contest.
