Record Setting Run For Hogan

PITTSBURGH, PA - All-American senior Megan Hogan dominated the field to capture her second consecutive individual Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday morning at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, PA. She becomes the sixth runner in conference history to win consecutive A-10 titles.
Hogan ran the 5K course in 16:56, beating the previous record by 27 seconds. The previous record was set by Saint Joseph's Christine Kane in 2000, also at Schenley Park. She also became the first women's runner to run a sub-17 minute 5K at the A-10 Championships.
"I am very happy for Megan. She wanted to go out and see where she was at after Penn State", said head coach Brian Beil. "This is a tough course with a brutal one-mile hill finish. She went out and looked strong and in two weeks she is going to be much better."
This marks the third year that Hogan has placed in the top two at the A-10 Championships. She registered a second-place finish in 2008, followed by consecutive first-place finishes.
"Overall I am happy with my performance", said Hogan. "I felt good while running but it was a hard course with a huge hill at the end. The weather was also cold and it affected by legs a little bit."
Hogan was also named the Atlantic 10 Women's Performer of the Year for the second year in a row. She is the second student-athlete to win consecutive honors in A-10 history.
Senior Jessica Stern finished in 48th-place after running the course in 18:50. The GW women finished in 11th-place overall out of 14 schools.
"After her (Stern's) injury over the summer, this felt like a missed opportunity because we know she is able to run at this level" said Beil.
The GW men also finished in 11th-place and were led by junior David McCutcheon who ran the 8K course in 25:30, finishing in 27th-place overall out of 144 runners.
"We didn't have a lot of depth coming in. We have had a tough year with the injury bug and have been banged up all year, said Beil. "Its very frustrating, we could have been in the top half of the conference."
The GW cross country programs will return to action on November 13 at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional at Penn State University. The race is at the Blue and White Golf Course, where Hogan finished in 4th-place on October 16.
