Women's Soccer Meets with President Knapp

WASHINGTON, DC- During morning practices, the only noise is the team's cheers of encouragement and hoots on shots that curve into the back of the net on the hushed Mount Vernon campus.
The GW women's soccer team took a break from running drills on Tuesday morning for a special guest, George Washington University President Steven Knapp.
President Knapp spoke to the team at the request of one of its senior captains, forward Ashley Starks. Starks, Vice President of Student Activities in the Student Association, is a student representative on the Career Services Task Force.
With an Atlantic 10 Conference championship berth on the line, the Colonials (9-7-0, 3-4-0 A-10) are preparing this week to close out the 2010 season at home against St. Bonaventure (10-7-0, 4-3-0) on Friday at 3:00 pm and Duquesne (8-7-1, 5-2-0) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Both teams currently sit ahead of GW in the A-10 standings, with the Top-6 teams heading to the postseason conference tournament.
"It's so important to have the support from the administration all the way up to the top," head coach Tanya Vogel said. "With President Knapp coming to practice today I hope that it inspires the team to push through this weekend with two games that we are seeking to win. The reinforcement of having the support of our administrators is huge."
GW is the only unbeaten Atlantic 10 team at home, with a 6-0 record this season. Sophomore forward Adriana Moya leads the team with four goals on the season. Freshmen Claire Haft and Alex Neal have three goals each.
The Colonials hold a 7-6-1 advantage in the series record over Duquesne, as well as an 11-3-1 series record against St. Bonaventure. Last season, GW defeated both teams at `The Vern' by 1-0 margins.
"We are very inspired and we are ready to make GW very proud this weekend," Vogel said.
