Volleyball Succumbs to No. 18 Dayton, 3-0

DAYTON, OH -- In a showdown between the two teams at the top of the A-10 standings, it was 18th-ranked Dayton that came out on top of George Washington, 3-0, Friday night in Ohio. The Flyers won easily by the scores, 25-14, 25-16, 25-10 at UD's Frericks Center. The loss snapped a five-match win streak for the Colonials and marked the Flyers' 12th straight victory.
GW's Lauren Whyte recorded a team-high 15 kills and hit .226 while senior Katie Zulandt hit .250 on five kills in 12 attempts with a block assist. GW libero Candace Silva-Martin had a team-high 12 digs and setter Katie Crosby assisted on 27 of the Colonials' 30 kills (90%)
Dayton (17-3, 8-0) was led by a trio of players with 11 kills each, Lindsey Fletemeir, Rachel Krabacher and Amanda Cowdrey. Fletemier hit an errorless .611 with five block assists as the Flyers combined to hit .427 and block eight GW attacks. UD's Paige Vargas led all players with 20 digs.
GW (17-8, 6-2 A-10) falls into a second-place tie with Xavier (13-7, 6-2), the Colonials' next opponent on Saturday night in Cincinnati. First serve is set for 8 p.m. at the Cintas Center.
