Volleyball Overmatched by No. 13 Minnesota, 3-0

MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- The GW Volleyball team suffered its second straight loss of the season Saturday to No. 13 Minnesota in Day 2 of the Diet Coke Classic at the University of Minnesota's Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis. The Golden Gophers prevailed by the scores, 25-17, 25-19, 25-16.
GW junior Leah Hill led the Colonials with 11 kills and freshman OH Lauren Whyte added 12 kills with a .346 hitting percentage. Freshman libero Candace Silva-Martin collected 15 digs to lead all players.
Minnesota hit .333 for the match, and held George Washington to a .112 hitting percentage. UM's Brook Dieter led the Gophers in kills with 16 on 34 swings, and also led the team in digs with 12.
Lauren Gibbemeyer finished with nine kills and five blocks, and Taylor Carico had six kills and a .714 hit percentage over two sets played. The Gophers out-blocked George Washington 8-2.
GW (3-2) returns to the court later Saturday for a match against Auburn (4-1) beginning at 6:30 p.m. (EDT).
