WASHINGTON, DC- It was late inning heroics again for George Washington in game one of a non-conference doubleheader against George Mason.
This time it was a team effort, as the Colonials came back in the seventh inning to beat Mason, 3-2, in game one. GW got multiple solid hits off of Mason starter Becky Anderson, forcing Mason fielders to make tough decisions on where to get outs.
With Amanda Gabriel and Jordyn O'Donnell getting on with singles, Amanda Holst beat the throw to first by sliding head-first into the bag. Jamie Yaniga collected a fielder's choice game-tying RBI, as her hit locked up the Mason fielders. Krissy Mackiewicz singled to left field to score the winning run.
In game two, a Katie Terrazas home run high over the left field wall in the fourth inning was not enough scoring for the Colonials in game two, as they fell to Mason, 6-2.
GW (10-19, 1-3) next hosts A-10 opponent Temple at the Mount Vernon Softball Field on Friday, April 3, at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 4, at 12:00 p.m.
