Washington, DC, natives Jessica and Jazmine Adair, Antelia Parrish and Yolanda Lavender, along with forward Jamila Bates, will be recognized for their commitment to the program in a pre-game ceremony. The Colonials have won 95 games and made three NCAA Tournament appearances, including back-to-back Sweet 16's in 2007 and 2008, during the past four seasons. GW has won 17 straight Senior Day games dating back to 1992, including a 56-53 victory over Temple at Smith Center Feb. 25, 2007, and is 80-4 in regular-season league play at home the past decade.
GW (17-11, 9-4 A-10) dropped into fourth place in the A-10 standings with a 59-57 loss at Charlotte Wednesday, snapping a three-game winning streak. Lavender banked-in a floating runner in the lane at the end of regulation which would have sent the game to overtime, but officials determined the shot was after the buzzer and waived off the basket. Jessica Adair led with 15 points and Parrish added 10 and eight rebounds as the Colonials trimmed a nine-point deficit with 3:44 to play to two with 45 seconds left.
A victory by Sunday would give GW the third seed and a bye in the A-10 Championship, which begins Friday at Charlotte's Halton Arena, while Temple would drop to the No. 4 seed. A loss would leave GW awaiting the result of Sunday's Saint Louis at Richmond contest and leave Temple checking the outcome of Saturday's Charlotte at St. Bonaventure contest. The Colonials could fall to the No. 5 seed due to the Spiders' head-to-head victories, while the Owls hold the tiebreaker over the 49ers and could vault to the No. 2 seed.
The Colonials have won at least a share of seven consecutive regular-season league titles, haven't finished lower than a tie for second since the 1989-90 season and haven't participated in the A-10 Championship's first round since 1986.
Temple (19-8, 10-3 A-10) captured its marquee win of the season Wednesday with a 74-65 victory over No. 13 Xavier at Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, PA. The Owls, who have appeared in the NCAA Tournament in each of the past five seasons and in six of the past seven years, are peaking as postseason nears under first-year head coach Tonya Cardoza, winning their last four games and eight of their last nine.
Sophomore Shaqwedia Wallace, who is among the favorites for A-10 Sixth Player of the Year and Most Improved Player with 11.7 ppg, led all scorers with 18 points off the bench against the Musketeers, followed by 14 from leading scorer Shenita Landry (12.5 ppg) and 12 points and five assists from LaKeisha Eaddy, who paces the A-10 with 5.6 apg. Landry comes from a family full of basketball stars - older brother Carl plays for the NBA's Houston Rockets, brother Marcus currently stars at Wisconsin and younger brother Jason plays at Wabash Valley Junior College in Illinois.
