Golf Struggles at Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC -- George Washington's Cole Turner was the low Colonial with a three-round 238 Monday-Tuesday at the fourth-annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Men's Golf Tournament, held on Hilton Head Island, SC. It marked the first competition of the spring for GW which placed 15th in the 16-team field. The 54-hole tournament was played at the par-72, 6,828-yard Wexford Plantation course.
GW sophomore Brendan Barrack fired a first-round 76 Monday which turned out to be the lowest round by a Colonial in the tournament. Barrack finished tied for 64th with a 248 (76-88-84). GW's Max Hamm was the second-lowest Colonial after firing a 247 (81-82-84), good for 63rd place.
USC Aiken, the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II, fired a final-round 306 team score to complete a wire-to-wire victory. USCA finished with a team score of 897, eight strokes ahead of A-10 foe Richmond (905). USCA's Roberto Diaz fired a 2-under-par 70, Tuesday's low round of the day, to capture medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 214. The event was hosted by Francis Marion University.
In addition to GW and Richmond, two other A-10 teams competed in the tournament. Saint Joseph's which finished in 13th place with a 972 and Rhode Island which finished 16th (938).
The Colonials will have nearly a month to regroup before hosting the 11th Annual GW Invitational March 21-22, at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Course in Bethany Beach, DE.
