Men's Basketball Falls to Harvard, 66-53

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- George Washington scored a season-low 18 second-half points on 6-for-24 shooting and fell, 66-53, to Harvard Wednesday night at Cambridge, MA. It marked GW's first road loss of the season after winning its first five games away from Smith Center for the first time in 62 years.
The Colonials shot 46.2 percent in the first half and trailed by three, 38-35, at the break before the Crimson took charge. Harvard opened the second half with a 12-2 run to take a 50-37 lead with 11:56 remaining and were never threatened the rest of the way.
Damian Hollis led the Colonials with 11 points despite an off night hitting on just five of his 14 attempts from the field. Tony Taylor added 10 points and a pair of assists.
Harvard's Jeremy Lin suffered a bloody nose on a baseline drive late in the first half and had to leave the game briefly for treatment. After the Crimson used a 30-second timeout, Lin returned with a tissue stuffed into one nostril and promptly buried a 25-footer as time expired at the end of the first half to give Harvard a 38-35 advantage and the momentum going into the break.
Harvard dominated the boards outrebounding the Colonials, 38-27, including a 29-20 advantage on the defensive end.
GW (9-3) shot 46 percent in the first half while holding the Crimson to 42 percent with both teams committing 10 turnovers and collecting 16 rebounds.
Harvard (9-3) had two players in double figures led by Lin's game-high 17 points, 14 in the second half. He led all players with eight rebounds, seven steals and five assists. Harvard's Kyle Casey added 15 points for the Crimson.
GW shot 43.8 percent from the field in the first half and held Harvard to just 26 percent shooting before halftime.
GW returns to Smith Center Saturday, Jan. 2 to host Howard in the final non-conference contest of the season. The GW-Howard game is the second half of a women's/men's doubleheader with the GW women hosting Rice at noon and the GW-Howard game scheduled to tip at 2:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on 1500 AM and 820 AM and as well as online at www.FederalNewsRadio.com.
