GW Coach Karl Hobbs
Opening statement
"In the second half, whenever we needed a big stop, we just couldn't get it. Either they scored, or we just couldn't get the rebound and that was the difference in the game. It's something that we're really struggling to overcome...to make tough plays down the stretch."
Joseph Katuka showed that he wasn't going to back down to anybody.
"We needed somebody that would show some physical presence inside and for some reason, Hollis just didn't have it tonight so we have to go with Joseph. I thought we tried to play hard, I thought we competed and once again, we have to try to find a way to overcome those stretches when we need to really toughen up to get a stop and get a rebound. "
Mbala was on fire with 22 points in the first half but held to just four points in the second half. Talk about your strategy with him.
"We really wanted to pay attention to him because he kinda caught us off guard. He just hasn't had that kind of game and he really kept them in it and really shot the ball tremendously well and he got them off to a good start and kept them in the game in the first half."
Looking at your point guards, Travis King and Tony Taylor, they combined for 18, both showing some aggressive moves to the paint.
"Yes, I thought those two guys really battled. I thought they were tough all night, really competed and I'm really happy with the way they played tonight."
Only 7 turnovers tonight for GW. Coming off what happened in the game with Rhode Island [22 GW turnovers], that's a very good sign.
"It's a great sign but at the end of the day, you gotta get stops, you gotta get rebounds."
