Golf Coach Scott Allen To Leave GW

WASHINGTON, DC -- Scott Allen (`93) is leaving his position as golf coach at The George Washington University after 14 seasons, the GW Department of Athletics has announced. Allen has accepted the position of Director of Golf at the University of Pennsylvania where he will coach the men's team and oversee the Quakers' women's golf program.
A member of the GW golf team from 1990-94 after transferring from the University of Delaware, Allen was a three-time team captain of the Colonials. He is the winningest coach in the 80-year history of GW Golf and in 2006, he led the team to its first NCAA berth in 60 years. His Colonials earned the 1,000th career head-to-head victory under Allen at the 2005 Bethany Beach Invitational, and his 1,270 career wins are four times more than any other GW golf coach. He has coached the Colonials to 13 tournament victories and 41 top-three finishes. Over the past four seasons, GW has posted a .632 winning percentage.
In addition to his duties as golf coach, Allen also served as GW's Recruiting Coordinator and as NCAA Compliance Assistant and as a golf instructor in GW's Exercise Science program.
"It is with a heavy heart that I leave GW," Allen said. "I've spent almost half of my life here as a student-athlete and coach. I'm very proud of what the golf program has achieved over the past decade and a half. I have had the pleasure of coaching a terrific group of golfers at GW, many of whom I now consider my personal friends. I am, and will always be, proud to say that I was a student-athlete at GW and it's an honor to be associated with my fellow GW student-athletes and this Athletic Department."
A search for Allen's replacement is underway.
