Volleyball's Syverson to Compete in Croatia Tournament

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University volleyball player Abby Syverson has been selected to play for the USA team at the 2008 Global Challenge volleyball tournament from July 20-24 in Pula, Croatia.
Teams from throughout Europe and the United States will compete in the four-day event. Opening Ceremonies will take place on July 20th, with the finals and closing ceremonies to be held on July 24th. Syverson will compete for the BIP/USA development team coached by University of Tennessee head coach, Rob Patrick.
"This is a great opportunity for Abby to prepare for our season this fall," GW head coach Jojit Coronel said. "As a junior captain, Abby has always demonstrated the passion and work ethic to be a great team player. Her participation with this team only proves her dedication to her teammates, this program and this university, in wanting to be the best team in the A-10."

Each U.S. delegation will arrive to Europe and have their own personal tour for the days prior to the tournament. These teams will then travel to Venice, Italy, for some world-class siteseeing before returning to the U.S. on July 26th.
A 6-foot-2 middle hitter from Minneapolis, Syverson led the Colonials with 92 total blocks as a sophomore last season. She amassed 260 points on 182 kills while hitting .217 with 27 service aces and 75 digs.

GW concluded the 2007 season with a 13-17 overall record, 5-8 in the Atlantic 10 Conference and qualified for the A-10 championship tournament for the first time in three years. The Colonials open the 2008 slate in the DC Challenge on Aug. 29 against American in Fairfax, VA.
