PHILADELPHIA, PA -- GW freshman Alyssa Valentine (Tustin, CA) was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday. The Colonials' setter earned the honor after she averaged 11.00 assists per set in helping lead GW to a 3-0 record last week. It marks the third time this season Valentine has won the award. She also won the award on Sept. 2 following the first week of the season, and again on Sept. 15.
Tuesday against the visiting Loyola Greyhounds, Valentine recorded a kill in her only attempt with no errors for a 1.000 hitting percentage while assisting on a block and had five digs. At Temple Friday, she hit .375 with three kills in eight attempts while recording 10 digs. Her efforts helped the Colonials win at Temple for the first time in 13 years spanning 14 meetings with the Owls.
Valentine's stats for the week: three matches, 11 sets, 121 assists, four kills, one attack error, 12 attempts, .250 hitting percentage, 19 digs, two service aces and two block assists for 7.0 points. For the three matches, she assisted on 81 percent of GW's 149 kills as GW won all three matches.
