Saturday's Game: GW (5-9, 1-3) aims to snap a seven-game road losing skid Saturday night against Duquesne (12-5, 2-2) in the only regular-season meeting. GW has won the last six meetings and 12 of the last 14. The last meeting was on `Senior Day' at Smith Center where GW prevailed, 88-80, on March 3, 2007.
• GW has a 12-5 record against Duquesne at the A.J. Palumbo Center after winning its last three games there.
• GW is 0-7 on the road this season while Duquesne is a 8-1 at home losing only to crosstown rival Pitt. The Dukes are 132-125 (.514) all-time at the 20-year-old Palumbo Center.
• GW is coming off an 81-70 loss at Rhode Island on Wednesday at the Ryan Center.
• Following a 11-3 start, Duquesne has lost two of its last three games (at URI, at Fordham).
• The Dukes are coming off an 83-67 victory over St. Bonaventure Wednesday at home to improve to 2-2 in the league.
• GW is without starting point guard Travis King, who is sitting out the season with a knee injury.
• GW has won 51 of its last 69 regular-season games and 30 of its last 38 A-10 games.
A Closer Look at Duquesne: The Dukes enter play Saturday with a 12-5 overall record, 2-2 in the A-10. Duquesne has three players averaging double figure points led by Shawn James' 14.3 ppg and 7.3 rebounds. The 6-10 James is among the nation's leaders in blocked shots at 4.2 bpg although he did not dress for the St. Bonaventure game after suffering an injury in practice early last week. Kojo Mensah averages 13.9 points, is an 81 percent free throw shooter and has a team-high 65 assists. For the season, Duquesne is shooting 47.1 percent from the field, averages a league-leading 85.6 points a game and is outrebounding opponents by more 2.5 caroms a game. The Dukes have lost two of their last three games, both on the road by a total of three points, at Rhode Island (80-78) and at Fordham (75-75). Duquesne coach Ron Everhart sometimes employs a 10-man, two-lineup rotation designed to wear down the opponent with full-court pressure defense and up-tempo offense.
Next Game: GW returns to Washington to host Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 7:00 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on CN8 and broadcast on 3WT Radio 107.7 FM, 1500 AM, 820 AM. Live audio streaming of the game will be available on www.GWsports.com.
