Volleyball Rallies To Down Hartford, 3-1

WASHINGTON, DC -- The George Washington volleyball team snapped a two-match slide with a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over the University of Hartford Saturday in day two of the 2007 GW Volleyball Invitational. The Colonials dropped game one but roared back to win three straight games. GW won by the scores 28-30, 32-30, 30-23, 30-18, in one hour, 51 minutes.
The Colonials were led by senior Janine Brown's 14-kill, 14-dig double-double for 16.5 points. GW also got double-figure kill efforts from Liz Moult (12), Abby Syverson (11) and freshman Katie Zulandt (10).
Hartford (6-6) was led by Hallie Fulagar's 14 kills and 19.5 points while teammate Erin Macro added 11 kills and 14.5 points.
As a team, GW hit a season-best .304 on 63 kills, 22 errors in 135 attacks compared to .250 for the Hawks (61-26-140). The Colonials also were effective at the net with 9.5 blocks to 6.5 blocks for Hartford. GW served well with 12 aces to just seven service errors.
In the tournament's first match on Saturday, East Carolina (7-5) ripped Howard, 30-14, 30-17, 30-10.
GW (6-6) will face Howard (0-10) in the tournament's final match at 7 p.m. Saturday also at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center.
