Tara Hannaford Named GW Women's Lacrosse Coach

WASHINGTON, DC - Tara Hannaford has been named the head women's lacrosse coach at The George Washington University, Senior Associate Director of Athletics Mary Jo Warner has announced.
Hannaford becomes the third head coach in the seven-year history of the GW lacrosse program. She comes to the District after serving as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the College of William and Mary for the past three seasons. The Tribe posted a 21-28 overall record during Hannaford's tenure and advanced to the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals and peaked at No. 13 in the STX/USILA Top 20 national rankings in 2006.
Prior to her hire at W&M, Hannaford was the Assistant Director of Athletics and women's lacrosse and water polo coach at the Cate School in Carpinteria, CA, for two years. While at Cate, Hannaford also was the national tournament coach for the Pacific Regional Lacrosse club.
A four-year letterwinner at William and Mary from 1998-2001, Hannaford ranks sixth all-time in program history with 116 career goals and 10th with 141 career points. A two-time All-CAA selection, Hannaford scored 42 goals and earned third team All-America honors as a senior in 2001, leading the Tribe to a berth in the NCAA Tournament and a Top 20 national ranking.
Hannaford earned her bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from W&M in 2001 and completed her master's in Athletic Administration/Sports Management from Indiana University in August 2002.
GW finished 11-7 overall and reached its first Atlantic 10 Championship title game in 2007. The Colonials are set to return nine starters and 19 letterwinners for 2008.
Hannaford replaces Chrissy Lombard-Adair, who resigned earlier this month to pursue other career interests. Lombard-Adair was 30-23 overall in three seasons, including A-10 Coach of the Year awards in 2005 and 2007.
