WASHINGTON, DC - Maria Bokulich has been named as the women's rowing assistant coach at the George Washington University, which was announced by head coach Rob McCracken. Bokulich comes to the Washington, DC area by way of Sydney, Australia where she served as the head coach at the Methodist Ladies College (MLC) School.
"We're very fortunate to have Coach Bokulich join the staff of George Washington Women's Rowing," said head coach Rob McCracken. "Her days as a walk-on athlete at Gonzaga, who continued to train at the elite level, make her a great role model for members of the team. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program that will help to increase the team's competitiveness in the Atlantic 10 and EAWRC," concluded McCracken.
Bokulich assisted in the development of a new rowing program at MLC and worked specifically with the top junior and senior crews. She also assisted in teaching fundamentals to a novice group of rowers.
In addition to her years of coaching experience, Bokulich, while rowing at Gonzaga University, trained every summer at a variety of US National Team and Elite Level development camps. After graduating from Gonzaga in 2004 with a degree in exercise science, Bokulich trained at several of the most prestigious clubs out on the east coast including, the Vesper Boat Club, Princeton Training Center and Saugatuck Rowing Club under several well known coaches.
Bokulich rowed collegiately at Gonzaga under former United State Junior National Team Coach, Glenn Putyrae, and was named to the All-American Collegiate Rowing Team in both her junior and senior seasons ('03 and '04). Bokulich was named CRCA All-West Region all four seasons as a Bulldog, and was named the Gonzaga Senior Women's Athlete of the Year in 2004 after assisting the Bulldogs to a fifth consecutive West Coast Conference (WCC) title.
Bokulich replaces former assistant coach, Sarah Dondero.
