WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington rising senior women's lacrosse players Caitlin Garman and Hayley McDonough were selected to the 2007 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll, which was released July 20. The GW team also earned IWLCA Honor Squad recognition for posting a 3.175 grade-point-average during the 2006-07 academic year.
GW joined 43 other Division I schools on the Honor Squad, while Garman and McDonough were among the 157 Division I student-athletes who earned Honor Roll recognition. The program's Honor Squad selection was its third in the last four years (2004, 2005, 2007). Teams must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to be eligible for academic team honors. Individuals must possess a 3.5 GPA or higher and have reached junior academic standing.
Garman, a communications major, started all but one game in goal for GW last spring, finishing second in the A-10 with a 7.84 goals-against-average in seven conference games. A two-time Academic All-Conference selection, Garman posted an 11-7 record and 135 saves and was second on the team with 36 ground balls.
McDonough, a psychology major, played in all 18 games and made 15 starts for the Colonials in 2007. She scored a single-season career-high 10 goals and added two assists, 10 ground balls and 10 draw controls.
GW posted an 11-7 record in 2007 and advanced to its first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship final after splitting the regular-season title with Richmond.
