WASHINGTON, DC -- Senior Janine Brown (Jacksonville, FL) has been named team captain of the George Washington volleyball team, associate coach Amy Bambenek announced Monday. Brown was selected unanimously in a vote by the players.
The Jacksonville, FL, native is the Colonials' top returning hitter and most experienced player. Brown slammed 218 kills last season despite suffering an ankle injury early in the season that limited her to just 64 appearances in GW's 94 games. She was named the MVP of last year's inaugural DC Challenge tournament and was named the team's Rookie of the Year following her freshman season in 2004.
Brown's career numbers: 258 games played, 626 kills, 345 hitting errors in 1,978 attempts for a .142 attack percentage, 79 service aces, 55 assists, 692 digs and 54 total blocks (22 solo, 64 assisted).
GW will open the 2007 season on Aug. 24 in the second annual DC Challenge with American, George Mason and Georgetown.
