WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington Volleyball head coach Jojit Coronel has announced that Katie Zulandt, a 6-2 Middle Blocker from Chardon, OH, has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend the University this fall. Zulandt joins Leah Hill and Hannah Stuart, both outside hitters who signed on Nov. 28, and will play for GW in the fall.
Zulandt, who attended Beaumont High School near Cleveland, was a three-year starter on her varsity team and earned All-District honors. In addition, she was named one of the "Best Players in the Northeast" by OhioHSvb.com. She also pitched for her high school softball team.
She plays Junior Olympic Volleyball for Cleveland Volleyball Company where her teammates gave her the nickname "Zues." She is one of nine siblings and plans to major in fine art and art history at GW.
"Katie is such a great fit both academically and athletically for our team," Coronel said. "We are fortunate to have recruited someone of Katie's size, skill and speed this late in the process. She is a dominant blocker and extremely explosive on slide attacks. With the graduation of senior middle blocker Kelly Kabbes, there is an opening in our line-up for her to make an impact as a freshman. She will be one of four middles competing for a spot in the starting lineup. We have high expectations for Katie's career as a Colonial, and her desire to win and passion for the game will, no doubt, allow her to succeed and reach her goals," Coronel added.
GW Volleyball signees for 2007:
Leah Hill, 5-9, OH (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central H.S.)
Hannah Stuart, 6-2, OH (Bainbridge Island, WA/Bainbridge Island H.S.)
Katie Zulandt, 6-2, MB (Chardon, OH, Beaumont H.S.)
