Volleyball Announces Yearly Team Awards

WASHINGTON, DC -- The 2006 George Washington Volleyball Team Awards were presented Jan. 26 at its annual season-ending banquet. Each award winner was selected by her teammates for their contributions throughout the course of the 2006 season. GW posted a 14-12 overall mark, 6-7 in the A-10 last season.
Senior setter Kaimana Lee was named the team's Most Outstanding Player. Lee led the squad in assists with 936 for an average of 10.52 assists per game. She also had 239 digs (2.69 dpg) and 40 total blocks.
Senior Kelly Kabbes was voted Offensive Player of the Year after leading the Colonials with a .320 hitting percentage on 185 kills in 412 attacks while committing just 53 errors. Kabbes also had a team-best 85 total blocks. Senior Juliene McLaughlin was named Defensive Player of the Year with 358 digs (3.81 dpg) and a team-high 323 kills.
Freshman Abby Syverson was the Rookie of the Year with a team-leading 37 service aces and 171 kills. Syverson hit .279, second-best among the starters. Most Improved Player honors went to sophomore Maggie Wright led the team in digs with 372 (3.96 dpg) in her role as Libero. Senior Abba Greenleaf was voted Most Inspriational Player. Greenleaf was second on the team in kills with 236 and had 61 total blocks.
