DETROIT, MI - George Washington junior women's basketball player Kimberly Beck has been named one of 11 final nominees for the Rotary Club of Detroit's Nancy Lieberman Award, which honors the nation's top Division I point guard.
Beck is on pace to become just the third player in the Atlantic 10's 25-year history to lead the league in assists in three consecutive seasons. Her 137 assists so far this season tops the A-10 rankings. The Fairburn, GA, native is the third-leading scorer for GW this season at 11.6 ppg and is 91 points shy of becoming the 23rd 1,000-point scorer in Colonials' women's basketball history.
A first team all-conference selection last season and the 2005 A-10 Rookie of the Year, Beck was named the Most Valuable Player of the San Diego Surf `N Slam Classic in December and also was voted to the BTI Classic All-Tournament team in November. She also has been named the A-10 Co-Player of the Week on three occasions this season.
The criterion for the Lieberman Award is the floor leadership, play-making and ball-handling skills that personified Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman during her career. Sportswriters from across the country have determined the final nominee list and will select three finalists and one winner at the end of March. The announcement of the three finalists and winner will be made during Final Four Weekend, April 1-3. The winner will be invited to attend the award luncheon in Detroit.
