Post-game quotes
GW Head Coach Karl Hobbs
On today's game:
"The fact that we kept turning the ball over didn't allow us to win the basketball game. They went on a stretch where we couldn't stop them from scoring. I thought that Frank Tolbert was a guy that we just couldn't guard today. I think when you look at our shooting percentage tonight and if you saw our shooting percentage tonight, chances are we won the game. But then you look and see that we had 21 turnovers and think maybe they didn't win the game. You have to give a lot of credit to Coach Lebo and his team. Obviously, they're going through some adjustments with some injuries and things like that. He's had to reshuffle his guys too. They came in, they played well, and it's a win for them."
On the absence sophomore guard Travis King:
"I'm really trying to not talk about Travis at all, but since you asked the question, we miss him greatly, as you can see. We went from being a team that used to average about 12 or 13 turnovers a game and now I think we're averaging somewhere around 20 per game. Not having him is getting close to being devastating."
On the team's three-game losing stretch:
"It hasn't been too frustrating because I know that I have some young kids. We have a lot of guys that this is their first time really playing a lot of minutes. As a coach, I know that I have to have some sort of patience."
On the play of freshman Miles Beatty:
"He's a freshman and he's doing what freshmen do. He had some good moments and he had some bad moments. Overall, he's working extremely hard on his game and I thought today he gave us a tremendous lift."
Auburn Head Coach Jeff Lebo
Opening Statement
"I thought we did a lot of good things out there today. As you see we are a very depleted team, and we have seven guys that can play but five that play the majority of the game. I didn't know how our team was going to respond, especially after we had such a long layoff. We did some good things, we didn't shoot the ball particularly well in the game, but I think defensively we did a pretty good job, and in the second half we did a much better job on guarding Rob Diggs."
On only having only five guys that play
"It is hard. It is hard to assimilate things in practice. Not only do we only have five, but you see the size of those guys, they are not very big so we had to change what we were doing midstream. We have tough kids, they have always played hard and they always try to do what I ask of them. We don't always play well or play smart but the one thing I know is that they always play their buts off for me. They did that today and gutted it out."
Senior Guard Frank Tolbert
On his contribution to the game
"I think I played pretty good, I started making a couple of shots and I tried to get my teammates involved. All in all, I think I played pretty good in offense. In defense I think we did some good things throughout the entire game."
On this being a big win
"This is a big win because it is a road game for us. We didn't win too many games last year so this is a big start for us winning games on the road this season. Our defense starts with our point guard. DeWayne Reed had eight steals so we were just feeding off of his energy."
