2008 GW Women's Lacrosse Schedule
WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington first year women's lacrosse coach Tara Hannaford has announced her team's 2008 schedule, which features two teams that competed in the 2007 NCAA Tournament and three schools that finished 2007 ranked in the nation's Top 20.
The defending Atlantic 10 regular-season co-champion Colonials host a pair of top 10 programs in Georgetown and Johns Hopkins to start the 2008 campaign. GW opens the season against District rival Georgetown at Mount Vernon Field Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 3:30 pm, then welcomes NCAA Tournament participant Johns Hopkins Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 3:30 pm. The Hoyas and Blue Jays finished 2007 tied for eighth in the final IWLCA Coaches' Top 20 poll.
GW travels to a trio of Colonial Athletic Association opponents to begin March, starting with Drexel Sunday, March 2. The Colonials play a 7:00 pm night game at George Mason on March 5, then wrap up the three-game road swing at Towson Saturday, March 8.
Mount St. Mary's visits the District on March 12 before the Colonials head to the West Coast for the first time since 2004 to battle Saint Mary's (CA) on March 17 and California three days later.
The Colonials play four of their seven Atlantic 10 games at Mount Vernon Field, beginning with La Salle on March 28 and Massachusetts two days later. GW travels to Duquesne and St. Bonaventure the weekend of April 4, then returns to Mount Vernon for a season-best three-game home stand.
The Colonials host Temple, a team they beat for the first time last spring, on April 11. GW and Denver, which ended 2007 ranked No. 15 in the nation, meet for the fourth straight season on April 13. GW concludes its home schedule against defending A-10 champion Richmond, which knocked off GW in the conference title game last year, on April 16. The Colonials finish A-10 play at Saint Joseph's April 18.
GW looks to make its second consecutive trip, third overall, to the A-10 Championship, which will take place at Massachusetts in Amherst, MA, April 25 and 27.
Hannaford, who is in her first season as head coach, takes over a GW team which captured a share of its first Atlantic 10 regular-season title and appeared in its first A-10 Tournament final last spring. Six newcomers will join nine starters and 17 returning letterwinners on the Colonials roster in 2008.
