Opening statement
"I thought [UMBC coach] Randy Monroe did a fantastic job with his basketball team. He had them well-prepared... they lost a tough game [at Lafayette] and that's character, that's truly what character is about. I really take my hat off to Randy and his staff and a very well-coached, very well-schooled basketball team. I thought their fans were fantastic. We made an early run on them but their fans wouldn't allow them to get down."
About not having Travis King or Maureece Rice in the game...
"That wouldn't have made any difference, [UMBC] played with a little bit more experience, a little more enthusiasm, they played with a great deal of hunger and that was the difference in the game. It was about will and who was able to force their will upon whom, and they were able to force their will upon us. The game came down to who really wanted it and, clearly, they wanted it more than we did and that's the reality of it."
On the play of freshmen Miles Beatty and Xavier Alexander...
"Those guys really played well, unfortunately for us, we couldn't play as well today and, as a result, you come away with a loss."
On the status of Maureece Rice...
"Maureece will be back against UCLA. We didn't play him today because he violated a team rule and I'm just going to leave it at that and hopefully he'll be ready to play basketball."
